Manaiakalani Online Toolkit| Creating T-Shaped Literacy Units

T-Shaped Literacy

Kia Ora,

Today I ran an online toolkit for our Manaiakalani cluster of schools across Aotearoa. I am glad I was given this opportunity as it really showed me how much of impact we can have on each other in teaching community. I definitely am not an expert at T-Shaped literacy but have been implementing it since last year and did see the positive impact of it on the students last year and the students I have this year so wanted to spread the word around. I was lucky enough to have had PLD from Dr Aaron Wilson and Dr Naomi Rosedale from Woolf Fisher Research Centre in 2020 on T-Shaped Literacy and creating T-shaped Literacy units. So, when an opportunity came up to share our ideas and knowledge through online toolkits I thought I should share one on T-Shaped literacy.

I believe in this whakatauki as it holds a lot of meaning for me as a teacher-

The baskets of knowledge

Ko te manu kai i te miro, nōna te ngāhere; ko te manu kai i te mātauranga, nōna te ao. The bird that consumes the miro berry owns the forest; the bird that consumes knowledge, owns the world.

We owe to the children we teach so we owe it to our own growths.

The toolkit ran successfully with lots and lots of participants saying they found it highly useful and would like to connect with me in the future if they need any support. This was really awesome.

Here is the Google Site from where I ran the toolkit.

If you have any questions with regards to anything on the site, please let me know.

Nga mihi
